Abstract
The present invention provides polymer compositions having a tunable decomposition temperature. Suitable additives are disclosed for lowering the decomposition temperature of polymer compositions. The invention further provides methods of preparing such polymer compositions with tunable decomposition temperatures.
Claims123
A polymer composition, comprising:
- a) a polymer selected from the group consisting of:
- wherein:
- each occurrence of Ra is independently hydrogen or an optionally substituted group selected from the group consisting of C1-30 aliphatic;
- C1-30 heteroaliphatic having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- 6- to 10-membered aryl;
- 5- to 10-membered heteroaryl having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur;
- and 3- to 7-membered heterocyclic having 1-3 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- and
- each occurrence of Rb, Rc, and Rd is independently hydrogen or an optionally substituted group selected from the group consisting of C1-12 aliphatic;
- C1-12 heteroaliphatic having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- 6- to 10-membered aryl;
- 5- to 10-membered heteroaryl having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur;
- and 3- to 7-membered heterocyclic having 1-3 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- wherein any of (Ra and Rc), (Rc and Rd), and (Ra and Rb) can be taken together with their intervening atoms to form one or more optionally substituted rings;
- and
- b) an additive comprising an organic cation characterized in that its presence modulates the decomposition temperature of the polymer composition.

- C1-30 heteroaliphatic having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- 6- to 10-membered aryl;
- 5- to 10-membered heteroaryl having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur;
- and 4- to 7-membered heterocyclic having 1-3 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- and
- each occurrence of Rb, Rc, and Rd is independently hydrogen or an optionally substituted group selected from the group consisting of C1-12 aliphatic;
- C1-12 heteroaliphatic having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- 6- to 10-membered aryl;
- 5- to 10-membered heteroaryl having 1-4 heteroatoms independently selected from nitrogen, oxygen, or sulfur;
- and 4- to 7-membered heterocyclic having 1-3 heteroatoms independently selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, oxygen, and sulfur;
- wherein any of (Ra and Rc), (Rc and Rd), and (Ra and Rb) can be taken together with their intervening atoms to form one or more optionally substituted rings;
- and
- b) admixing the polymer composition with an effective amount of an additive capable of modulating the decomposition temperature of the polymer composition.
