Abstract
A communication system for implementing locking of a device (102) is described. The device (102) can be locked to a network service provider for a validity period. After expiry of the validity period, the device (102) can be automatically unlocked. In locked mode of operation, an integrated circuit (IC) card tool-kit (214) that is used for housing the IC card, is disabled in the device (102). During the validity period, the device (102) transmits an equipment identity number to the network service provider while initiating a request for communication. The network service provider dynamically allocates a subscriber identity number to facilitate communication process. After expiry of the validity period, the device (102) is unlocked automatically and the IC tool-kit (214) of the device (102) is enabled.
Claims25
A communication system (100) comprising:
- a communication device (102) that is locked for a validity period, wherein the communication device (102) transmits an equipment identity number during the validity period to initiate a communication process;
- and
- a communication server (106) communicatively coupled to the communication device to receive the equipment identity number and, in response, dynamically allocate a subscriber identity number to the communication device (102) to facilitate the communication process.
A communication device (102) comprising:
- a memory (208) to store data denoting a validity period;
- an integrated circuit card tool kit (214) to house and connect an integrated circuit card;
- and
- a processor (202) configured to read the data from the memory, wherein the processor (202) disables the integrated circuit card tool kit (214) during the validity period.
A communication server (106) comprising:
- an authentication module (110) to authenticate a connection request received from a communication device, wherein the connection request comprises an equipment identity number;
- and
- an allocation module (112) to dynamically allocate a subscriber identity number to the communication device, in response to the connection request.
A method comprising:
- disabling an integrated circuit card tool kit (214) for a validity period;
- and
- transmitting an equipment identity number to initiate a communication process during the validity period.
A method comprising:
- receiving a request for communication, wherein the request includes an equipment identity number;
- authenticating the request;
- dynamically allocating a subscriber identity number in response to the request;
- and
- facilitating the communication using the subscriber identity number.
