Method of allocating radio resources in a wireless communication system

A method of transmitting downlink data at a network in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• transmitting scheduling information from the network to a user equipment, the scheduling information comprising either a radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a dynamic scheduling mode or a Semi-Persistent Scheduling RNTI (SPS-C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a semi-persistent scheduling mode;
• transmitting the downlink data to the user equipment based on the scheduling information during a corresponding transmission interval only if the scheduling information comprises the C-RNTI;
• and
• transmitting the downlink data to the user equipment periodically based on the scheduling information according to an allocation period included in the scheduling information if the scheduling information comprises the SPS-C-RNTI.

A method of receiving uplink data at a network in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• transmitting scheduling information to a user equipment, the scheduling information comprising either a radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a dynamic scheduling mode or a Semi-Persistent Scheduling RNTI (SPS-C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a semi-persistent scheduling mode;
• receiving the uplink data from the user equipment based on the scheduling information during a corresponding transmission interval only if the scheduling information comprises the C-RNTI;
• and
• receiving the uplink data using the scheduling information periodically according to an allocation period included in the scheduling information if the scheduling information comprises the SPS-C-RNTI.

A network for use in a wireless communication system, the network comprising:

• a transmitter configured to:
• transmit scheduling information to a user equipment, the scheduling information comprising either a radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a dynamic scheduling mode or a Semi-Persistent Scheduling RNTI (SPS-C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a semi-persistent scheduling mode;
• transmit downlink data to the user equipment based on the scheduling information during a corresponding transmission interval only if the scheduling information comprises the C-RNTI;
• and
• transmit the downlink data to the user equipment periodically based on the scheduling information according to an allocation period included in the scheduling information if the scheduling information comprises the SPS-C-RNTI;
• and
• a receiver configured to:
• receive uplink data from the user equipment based on the scheduling information during a corresponding transmission interval only if the scheduling information comprises the C-RNTI;
• and
• receive the uplink data from the user equipment periodically based on the scheduling information according to an allocation period included in the scheduling information if the scheduling information comprises the SPS-C-RNTI.

A method of receiving data at a user equipment in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving first scheduling information from a network and receiving an initial packet from the network based on the first scheduling information;
• transmitting NACK to the network if the user equipment fails to decode the initial packet successfully;
• receiving second scheduling information from the network and receiving a retransmission packet from the network based on the second scheduling information;
• and
• combining the retransmission packet with the initial packet to recover a packet associated with the initial packet and the retransmission packet,
• wherein each of the first scheduling information and the second scheduling information comprises either a radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) indicating that the scheduling information is associated with a dynamic scheduling mode or a Semi-Persistent Scheduling RNTI (SPS-C-RNTI) indicating that the scheduling information is associated with a semi-persistent scheduling mode.

A user equipment for receiving data in a wireless communication system, wherein the user equipment is configured to:

• receive first scheduling information from a network and receive an initial packet from the network based on the first scheduling information;
• transmit NACK to the network if the user equipment fails to decode the initial packet successfully;
• receive second scheduling information from the network and receive a retransmission packet from the network based on the second scheduling information;
• and
• combine the retransmission packet with the initial packet to recover a packet associated with the initial packet and the retransmission packet,
• wherein each of the first scheduling information and the second scheduling information comprises either a radio network temporary identifier (C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a dynamic scheduling mode or a Semi-Persistent Scheduling RNTI (SPS-C-RNTI) to indicate that the scheduling information is associated with a semi-persistent scheduling mode.
