Abstract
An information handling system housing is manufactured from a laminate material having a stainless steel exterior and magnesium interior that are encapsulated with injection molding. A thin sheet of stainless steel is formed to have a lip that meets against the magnesium and is secured in place with injection molding material. In one embodiment, an injection molding tool holds the laminate material in place to encapsulate the perimeter of the material with injection molding material and also activates an adhesive that holds the laminate material together, such as by applying pressure and heat to the laminate material.
Claims20
A method for manufacture of an information handling system housing, the method comprising:
- aligning plural materials to overlap in the form of the housing;
- and
- injection molding at least of portion of a perimeter of the plural materials to capture the overlap of the plural materials in injection molding material.
An information handling system housing comprising:
- a laminated material having first and second material layers, the first layer forming a lip proximate to the second layer;
- and
- a perimeter material injection molded to encapsulate the first and second layers at the lip.
A method for manufacturing a laminate material, the method comprising:
- laminating plural materials into a form having a perimeter;
- and
- encapsulating the plural materials along at least a portion of the perimeter with injection molding.
