Abstract
A media-rendering apparatus for real-time streaming of audio/video (AV) data to a media-player having one or more input direct-access-storage-device (DASD) interfaces, the apparatus including a real-time AV data source unit, an input frame buffer operatively coupled with the real-time AV data unit, an AV real-time encoder, an encoded-frames buffer, a power source, a storage-device content emulator and a DASD interface device for communicating with the media-player. Preferably, power is provided through the DASD interface device.
Claims20
A media-rendering apparatus for real-time streaming of audio/video (AV) data to a media-player having one or more input direct-access-storage-device (DASD) interfaces, the apparatus comprising:
- a) a real-time AV data source unit;
- b) an input frame buffer operatively coupled with said real-time AV data source unit;
- c) an AV real-time encoder;
- d) an encoded-frames buffer;
- e) a power source;
- f) a storage-device content emulator;
- and
- g) a DASD interface device for communicating with said media-player,
- wherein said real-time AV data source unit is facilitated to provide an input AV data stream, temporarily stored in said input frame buffer;
- wherein said real-time encoder encodes said input AV data stream, using said encoded-frames buffer, to facilitate the media-player to play said encoded input AV data;
- wherein said storage content emulator emulates a DASD content, and wherein said emulated DASD content contains said encoded input AV data;
- and
- wherein said emulated DASD content is provided to the media-player, thorough said DASD interface device.
A method of providing real-time AV data to a media-player, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a media-rendering apparatus operatively connected to said media-player by a DASD interface device, said media-rendering apparatus including:
- i. a real-time AV data source unit, facilitated to provide an input AV data stream;
- ii. an AV real-time encoder;
- iii. a storage-device content emulator;
- and
- iv. a DASD interface device for communicating with said media-player;
- b) identifying said media-rendering apparatus as a DASD connected to said media-player through said DASD interface device;
- c) emulating DASD content, wherein said DASD content includes emulated metadata emulating a file-system containing at least one AV data file;
- d) upon receiving a metadata-block read-request from said media-player, providing said media-player with said emulated metadata;
- e) encoding AV data by said real-time encoder of said input AV data stream;
- and
- f) upon receiving a block read request from said media-player, providing said media-player, just-in-time, with said encoded AV data.
A method for controlling a media-rendering device, having a processor and operatively attached to a media-player as an emulated DASD, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) analyzing, by said processor, the sequence and rate of DASD blocks requested by said media-player, to thereby determine the use of a playback control command, issued to said media-player by an operator of said media-player;
- b) modifying the behavior of said media-rendering device in response to said playback control command;
- and
- c) providing said DASD blocks, requested by said media-player, with emulated encoded AV content, generated just-in-time, wherein said emulated encoded AV content is dependent modified behavior.
A method for controlling a media-rendering device, having a processor and operatively attached to a media-player as an emulated DASD, the method comprising the steps of:
- a) providing a control command, presented on said emulated DASD as a special AV file;
- b) activating said control command by operatively selecting said special AV file to be played by said media-player;
- c) identifying said selecting of said special AV file by said media-rendering device by analyzing the sequence of DASD blocks requested by said media-player, by said processor;
- d) modifying the behavior of said media-rendering device in response to said playback control command;
- and
- e) providing said DASD blocks, requested by said media-player, with emulated encoded AV content, wherein said emulated encoded AV content is dependent modified behavior.
A system for real-time presentation of AV data, the system comprising:
- a) a media-player, facilitated to present media data from a DASD;
- and
- b) a media-rendering device facilitated to emulate a DASD containing encoded AV data content,
- wherein said devices are operatively interconnected by a DASD interface device.
