Precoding signaling in a mimo wireless communication system

A user equipment (UE) configured to receive data, comprising:

• a feedback message generator configured to generate at least one feedback message in response to at least one reference signal received from a base station (BS) and transmit the at least one feedback message to the BS;
• a memory configured to store the at least one feedback message;
• and
• a processing unit configured, when receiving a data signal from the BS, to retrieve a feedback message among the at least one feedback message in the memory and process the data signal based on the retrieved feedback message.

A method for receiving data at a user equipment (UE), comprising:

• generating at least one feedback message in response to at least one reference signal received from a base station (BS);
• transmitting the at least one feedback message to the BS;
• storing the at least one feedback message in a memory;
• and
• upon receiving a data signal from the BS, retrieving a feedback message among the at least one feedback message in the memory and processing the data signal based on the retrieved feedback message.

A method for transmitting data at a base station, comprising:

• transmitting a plurality of reference signals to a user equipment (UE);
• receiving a plurality of feedback messages from the UE, each feedback message including a transmission format, the transmission format determined based on the transmitted reference signals;
• and
• transmitting a data signal and control data related to the transmission format, the control data comprising information indicating that the transmission format in a most recently received feedback message is used for precoding the data signal.

A base station, comprising:

• a transmitter configured to transmit a plurality of reference signals to a user equipment (UE);
• and
• a receiver configured to receive a plurality of feedback messages from the UE, each feedback message including a transmission format, the transmission format determined based on the transmitted reference signals;
• wherein the transmitter is further configured to transmit a data signal and control data related to the transmission format, the control data comprising information indicating that the transmission format in a most recently received feedback message is used for precoding the data signal.
