Door Lock for Use with Differing Interchangeable Lock Cores

A door lock comprising:

• a lock body (20) adapted to be mounted in a door (120);
• an outer spindle (24) including an end (26) extending beyond the lock body (20), with the end (26) of the outer spindle (24) adapted to extend beyond an outer side (126) of the door (120), with the end (26) of the outer spindle (24) including a first cutout (28);
• a latch (48) operably connected to the outer spindle (24) to move between an extended, latching position and a retracted, unlatching position;
• an engaging member (76) detachably mounted to the outer spindle (24), with the engaging member (76) including first and second ends (78, 80) spaced along an axis, with a sleeve (87) extending away from an end face of the first end (78) of the engaging member (76) along the axis, with a lock core hole (82) extending from the second end (80) of the engaging member (76) through the sleeve (87) along the axis, with the lock core hole (82) including a large section (85) in the second end (80) of the engaging member (76), with the large section (85) having an end wall (94), with an ear groove (89) defined in an inner periphery of the larger section (85), with the lock core hole (82) further including a small section (88) extending through the sleeve (87) into the first end (78) of the engaging member (76) and having a bottom wall (96) spaced from the end wall (94) of the large section (85) along the axis, with the lock core hole (82) further including an intermediate section (83) in communication with and intermediate the small and large sections (88, 85), with the intermediate section (83) extending between the end wall (94) of the large section (85) and the bottom wall (96) of the small section (88), with the small section (85) being substantially figure 8-shaped and including a first hole (84) and a second hole (86) in communication with the first hole (84), with the first hole (84) aligned with the small section (88) of the engaging member (76) along the axis and having an inner diameter of smaller than that of the small section (88), with a first lug (90) formed on an inner periphery of the intermediate section (83), with the outer spindle (24) removably received in the small section (88) with the first lug (90) engaged in the first cutout (28) and with the end face (26) abutting the bottom wall (96) of the large section (85), allowing joint rotation of the engaging member (76) and the outer spindle (24);
• an outer spindle (54) including a stem (56) having outer and inner sides (58, 60) spaced along the axis, with a shank (62) formed on the inner side (60) of the stem (56) and having a distal end spaced from the inner side (60) along the axis, with a coupling hole (64) defined in the shank (62) and having a shape complementary to the engaging member (76), with the coupling hole (64) including an inner opening (68) in the distal end, with an outer opening (66) being formed in the outer side (58) of the stem (56) and extending through the coupling hole (64) along the axis, with the outer opening (66) aligned with the inner opening (68) along the axis, with the engaging member (76) releasably engaged in the coupling hole (64) of the shank (62) but not rotatable relative to the shank (62), with the sleeve (87) extending beyond the shank (62) via the inner opening (68);
• and
• a lock core (106) having an outline complementary to the large section (85) of the lock core hole (82) of the engaging member (76), with a cylinder (113) pivotably received in the lock core (106), with the cylinder (113) including an ear (116) movable between an extended position outside of the lock core (106) and engaged in the ear groove (89) of the engaging member (76) and a retracted position inside the lock core (106) and disengaged from the ear groove (89), with the lock core (106) being removable from the large section (85) of the lock core hole (82) of the engaging member (76) along the axis when the ear (116) is in the retracted position.
