Induced sleep intervals for devices receiving bursty non-real time broadcast flows

A method of receiving a broadcast flow content from a mobile multimedia broadcast signal, comprising:

• receiving overhead information within the broadcast signal;
• determining whether the overhead information includes an indication of suspended data broadcasts;
• determining from the indication of suspended data broadcasts a duration that a receiver circuit may be deactivated;
• deactivating the receiver circuit for the determined duration;
• and
• reactivating the receiver circuit at the end of the determined duration.

A multimedia broadcast communication system, comprising:

• a multimedia broadcast system comprising:
• a broadcast transmission system;
• and
• a server processor in communication with the broadcast transmission system, wherein the server is configured with server-executable instructions to perform operations comprising:
• determining when broadcast of data within a data flow should be suspended temporarily;
• determining a duration for suspending the broadcast of data within the data flow;
• broadcasting an indication of the determined duration of suspended data broadcasts;
• suspending broadcast of data within the data flow for the determined duration without deactivating the data flow;
• and
• storing flow content received from a content provider in a flow buffer for the determined duration;
• and
• a receiver device, comprising:
• a processor;
• and
• a receiver circuit coupled to the processor and configured to receive transmissions from the multimedia broadcaster,
• wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations comprising.
• obtaining the indication of the determined duration of suspended data broadcasts with transmissions received from the multimedia broadcaster;
• deactivating the receiver circuit for the determined duration;
• and
• reactivating the receiver circuit at the end of the determined duration.

A multimedia broadcast communication system, comprising:

• means for determining when broadcast of data within a data flow should be suspended temporarily;
• means for determining a duration for suspending the broadcast of data within the data flow;
• means for broadcasting an indication of the determined duration of suspended data broadcasts;
• means for suspending broadcast of data within the data flow for the determined duration without deactivating the data flow;
• means for storing flow content received from a content provider in a flow buffer for the determined duration;
• means for obtaining the indication of the determined duration of suspended data broadcasts with transmissions received from the multimedia broadcaster;
• means for deactivating the receiver circuit for the determined duration;
• and
• means for reactivating the receiver circuit at the end of the determined duration.

A server in communication with the broadcast transmission system, wherein the server is coupled to a broadcast transmission system and configured with server-executable instructions to perform operations in conjunction with the broadcast transmission system comprising:

• determining when broadcast of data within a data flow should be suspended temporarily;
• determining a duration for suspending the broadcast of data within the data flow;
• broadcasting an indication of the determined duration of suspended data broadcasts;
• suspending broadcast of data within the data flow for the determined duration without deactivating the data flow;
• and
• storing flow content received from a content provider in a flow buffer for the determined duration.

A server for use in a broadcast transmission system, comprising:

• means for determining when broadcast of data within a data flow should be suspended temporarily;
• means for determining a duration for suspending the broadcast of data within the data flow;
• means for broadcasting an indication of the determined duration of suspended data broadcasts;
• means for suspending broadcast of data within the data flow for the determined duration without deactivating the data flow;
• and
• means for storing flow content received from a content provider in a flow buffer for the determined duration.

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions configured to cause a server within a broadcast transmission system to perform operations in conjunction with the broadcast transmission system comprising:

• determining when broadcast of data within a data flow should be suspended temporarily;
• determining a duration for suspending the broadcast of data within the data flow;
• broadcasting an indication of the determined duration of suspended data broadcasts;
• suspending broadcast of data within the data flow for the determined duration without deactivating the data flow;
• and
• storing flow content received from a content provider in a flow buffer for the determined duration.

A receiver device configured to receive broadcast signals from a mobile multimedia broadcast system, comprising:

• a receiver circuit configured to receive the broadcast signals from a mobile multimedia broadcast system;
• and
• a processor coupled to the receiver circuit, wherein the processor is configured with processor-executable instructions to perform operations comprising:
• receiving overhead information within the broadcast signals;
• determining whether the overhead information includes an indication of suspended data broadcasts;
• determining from the indication of suspended data broadcasts a duration that a receiver circuit may be deactivated;
• deactivating the receiver circuit for the determined duration;
• and
• reactivating the receiver circuit at the end of the determined duration.

A receiver device configured to receive broadcast signals from a mobile multimedia broadcast system, comprising:

• means for receiving overhead information within the broadcast signals;
• means for determining whether the overhead information includes an indication of suspended data broadcasts;
• means for determining from the indication of suspended data broadcasts a duration that a receiver circuit may be deactivated;
• means for deactivating the receiver circuit for the determined duration;
• and
• means for the receiver circuit at the end of the determined duration.

A non-transitory processor-readable storage medium having stored thereon processor-executable instructions configured to cause a processor of a receiver device configured to receive broadcast signals from a mobile multimedia broadcast system to perform operations comprising:

• receiving overhead information within the broadcast signals;
• determining whether the overhead information includes an indication of suspended data broadcasts;
• determining from the indication of suspended data broadcasts a duration that a receiver circuit may be deactivated;
• deactivating the receiver circuit for the determined duration;
• and
• reactivating the receiver circuit at the end of the determined duration.
