Dynamic session maintenance for mobile computing devices

One or more computer storage media comprising computer-executable instructions that are executable by a device to:

• execute a naming query requesting an address for a different device in response to an indication of a disconnection of the different device;
• receive a response to the naming query indicating a current address for the different device that differs from a previous address used by the device to communicate with the different device;
• and
• issue a binding update to the current address to initiate communication with the different device.

A computer-implemented method, comprising:

• receiving a binding update at a component of a virtual private network (VPN) indicating that a mobile device has changed from a first external address to a second external address;
• mapping at the component the first external address to the second external address;
• and
• routing a communication received at the component from the second external address to one or more other components of the virtual private network using the first external address.
