## Abstract

An annuloplasty prosthesis for a heart valve has a sewing cuff added to the conventional structure. The sewing cuff is preferably an extension of the fabric cover that is provided around the core of the prosthesis. The sewing cuff preferably extends radially outwardly from cross sections of the remainder of the prosthesis. Methods of making such a sewing cuff are also disclosed.

## Claims

### Claim 1

An annuloplasty prosthesis for a heart valve comprising:
an annular core having an outer surface; and
a fabric having a first portion firmly wrapped around the outer surface of the annular core and a second portion extending radially outward from the core and forming a sewing cuff, the sewing cuff having at least one opening extending therethrough.

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 1, wherein the sewing cuff has an annular shape.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 1, further comprising at least one suture disposed adjacent the outer surface of the annular core and attaching ends of the sewing cuff to the first portion of the fabric.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 1, wherein the sewing cuff includes a folded free end of the fabric.

### Claim 5 (depends on 4)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 4, further comprising at least one suture extending through the folded end of the fabric to maintain the folded end in a folded condition.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 1, wherein first and second portions of the fabric together are a one-piece structure.

### Claim 7 (depends on 1)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 1, further comprising an polymer layer wrapped around the outer surface of the annular core, wherein the first portion of the fabric is firmly wrapped around the polymer layer.

### Claim 8 (depends on 1)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 1, wherein the first portion of the fabric is firmly wrapped around an entire outer surface of the annular core without any intermediate layer disposed between the annular core and the first portion of the fabric.

### Claim 9

An annuloplasty prosthesis for a heart valve comprising:
an annular core having an outer surface;
a fabric having a first portion wrapped around the outer surface of the annular core and a second portion extending radially outward from the core and forming a sewing cuff, the sewing cuff having at least one opening extending therethrough; and
a polymer layer arranged at least partially around the outer surface of the annular core and disposed between the annular core and the first portion of the fabric.

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 9, wherein the polymer layer comprises an elastomer.

### Claim 11 (depends on 9)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 9, wherein the polymer layer comprises silicon.

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 9, wherein the sewing cuff has an annular shape.

### Claim 13 (depends on 9)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 9, further comprising at least one suture disposed adjacent the outer surface of the annular core and attaching ends of the sewing cuff to the first portion of the fabric.

### Claim 14 (depends on 9)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 9, wherein the sewing cuff includes a folded free end of the fabric.

### Claim 15 (depends on 14)

The annuloplasty prosthesis according to claim 14, further comprising at least one suture extending through the folded end of the fabric to maintain the folded end in a folded condition.
