A method for treating Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative syndromes (polycythemia vera, essential thrombocythemia or idiopathic myelofibrosis) which comprises administering diethyl-[6-(4-hydroxycarbamoyl-phenylcarbamoyloxymethyl)-naphthalen-2-yl-methyl]-ammonium chloride or other pharmaceutically acceptable salts and/or solvates thereof, in combination with N-hydroxyurea to a patient in need of such a treatment, is described. The diethyl-[6-(4-hydroxycarbamoyl-phenylcarbamoyloxymethyl)-naphthalen-2-yl-methyl]-ammonium chloride in combination with N-hydroxyurea induces positive therapeutic responses in patients refractory to the N-hydroxyurea monotherapy and/or whose therapeutic response to monotherapy with the same dose of N-hydroxyurea is unsatisfactory.
