Playback apparatus and playback method

A playback apparatus that is capable of playing back a specified viewpoint video when viewing plural viewpoint video content or arbitrary viewpoint video content, the playback apparatus comprising:

• a viewpoint information storage unit configured to store information about a first viewpoint specified prior to an interruption when the playback of the video is interrupted;
• and
• a control unit configured to carry out control so as to determine the length of the interruption period when the playback of the video is resumed, playback a second viewpoint video previously specified for the video when the length of the interruption period is equal to or longer than a baseline time, and playback the first viewpoint video indicated by the information read out from the viewpoint information storage unit when the length of the interruption period is less than the baseline time.

A playback method executed by a playback apparatus that is capable of playing back a specified viewpoint video when viewing plural viewpoint video content or arbitrary viewpoint video content, the playback method comprising the steps of:

• storing information about a first viewpoint specified prior to an interruption when the playback of the video is interrupted;
• and
• determining the length of the interruption period when the playback of the video is resumed, playing back a second viewpoint video previously specified for the video when the length of the interruption period is equal to or longer than a baseline time, and playing back the first viewpoint video indicated by the information stored in the step when the length of the interruption period is less than the baseline time.
