Mems shutter and display apparatus having the same

A microelectromechanical (MEMS) shutter comprising:

• a transmission layer comprising a first slit comprising plural slits through which light is transmitted;
• a shutter comprising a second slit comprising plural slits corresponding to the first slit;
• and
• an electrode part comprising at least one electrode and provided at a portion of the shutter,
• wherein the electrode part controls an overlapped area between the first slit and the second slit according to a voltage level applied to the electrode to provide varying levels of gray scale.

A display apparatus comprising:

• a substrate to define plural pixel areas;
• and
• plural microelectromechanical (MEMS) shutters disposed on the respective pixel areas,
• wherein each of the MEMS shutters comprises,
• a transmission layer comprising a first slit comprising plural slits through which a light is transmitted;
• a shutter comprising a second slit comprising plural slits corresponding to the respective slits of the first slit, wherein at least one electrode is provided to control an overlapped area between the first slit and the second slit by a voltage level to provide varying levels of gray scale.
