Abstract
The instant invention relates to dielectrically positive nematic media comprising one or more compounds of formula I and one or more compounds of formulae II and III and optionally one or more compounds of formulae IV and V and liquid crystal devices comprising these media and especially to fast switching electro-optical devices.

A liquid crystal medium, comprising
- one or more compounds of formula I
- wherein
- R1 is alkyl or alkoxy with 1 to 7 C-atoms or alkenyl, alkenyloxy or alkoxyalkyl with 2 to 7 C-atoms
- L11 and L12 are independently of each other H or F and
- X1 is CN or NCS,
- and
- one or more compounds of formulae II and III
- wherein
- R21, R22, R31 and R32, independently of each other, are alkyl or alkoxy with 1 to 7 C-atoms, alkenyl, alkenyloxy or alkoxyalkyl with 2 to 7 C-atoms,
- and
- m and n are, independently of each other, 0 or 1,
- and optionally
- one or more compounds of formulae IV and V
- wherein
- R41, R42, R51 and R52 independently of each other, are alkyl or alkoxy with 1 to 7 C-atoms, alkenyl, alkenyloxy or alkoxyalkyl with 2 to 7 C-atoms,
- independently of each other and in case
- is present twice, also these independently of each other are
- independently of each other and in case
- is present twice, also these independently of each other are
- Z41, Z42, Z51 and Z52 independently of each other, and in case Z41 and/or Z51 is/are present twice, also these independently of each other, are —CH2CH2—, —COO—, trans- —CH═CH—, trans- —CF═CF—, —CH2O—, —CF2O—, —C≡C— or a single bond, and
- p and q are, independently of each other, 0, 1 or 2,
- and
- optionally one or more chiral compounds.
