Abstract
A system transmits a wireless power transmission from a bottom hole assembly of a drill string. The system has a downhole component having a wireless power transmitter adapted to wirelessly transmit at least one wireless power transmission and a wireless power receiver adapted to receive the at least one wireless power transmission.
Claims25
A system for transmitting power in a borehole comprising:
- a drill string extending within the borehole;
- a first component associated with the drill string;
- a wireless power transmitter electrically coupled to the first component, the wireless power transmitter adapted to wirelessly transmit a wireless power transmission;
- and
- a wireless power receiver adapted to receive the wireless power transmission.
A method for wirelessly transmitting power in a borehole, the method comprising:
- electrically coupling a wireless power transmitter to a first component adapted for operation in the borehole;
- and
- wirelessly transmitting power to a wireless power receiver electrically coupled to a second component without interconnecting wires between the first component and the second component.
A method for wireless transmitting power in a drill string, the method comprising:
- electrically coupling a wireless power transmitter to a power source;
- wirelessly transmitting power at a first transmission frequency from the wireless power transmitter to a wireless power receiver;
- transmitting data from the wireless power receiver to the wireless power transmitter based on the power received from the wireless power receiver;
- and
- adjusting a transmission frequency of the wireless power transmitter to a second frequency, wherein the second frequency is closer to a resonant frequency of the wireless power transmitter than the first frequency.
