Modification of Small Computer System Interface Commands to Exchange Data with a Networked Storage Device Using AT Attachment Over Ethernet

A computer readable storage medium for storing a computer program product including instructions executable by a processor of a computing device to perform a computer implemented method for generating a network request including a second command from a first command, the method comprising:

• identifying a command type associated with the first command having a first format;
• determining one or more physical memory addresses associated with the first command;
• generating an identifier associated with each physical memory address associated with the first command;
• identifying the second command having a second format, the second command associated with the identified command type;
• generating the network request including a device identifier associated with a storage device, a tag, the second command and the one or more identifiers;
• and
• storing the network request in a transmission queue.

A method for retransmitting a network request, the method comprising:

• receiving a retransmission network request;
• determining a round trip time for a network request having a first format to a storage device, the round trip time being from transmission of the network request to receipt of a response corresponding to the network request from the storage device;
• determining a deviation time indicative of deviations in previous round trip times corresponding to previous network requests to the storage device;
• determining a transmission time value for the network request based on the round trip time and the deviation time;
• and
• responsive to determining that the transmission time value exceeds a time threshold, transmitting the retransmission network request.

A method for managing congestion in a network, the method comprising:

• determining a network request capacity for a storage device coupled to a storage device controller;
• initializing a throughput value to the network request capacity;
• receiving a network request to be sent from the storage device controller to the storage device;
• responsive to determining that the network request is not a retransmission request, incrementing a status value, the status value indicating a number of network requests successfully transmitted within an interval;
• and
• responsive to determining that the status value exceeds a traffic threshold, increasing the throughput value.

A method for managing congestion in a network, the method comprising:

• determining a network request capacity for a storage device coupled to a storage device controller;
• initializing a throughput value to the network request capacity;
• receiving a network request;
• and
• responsive to determining that the network request is a retransmission request, decreasing the throughput value and resetting a status value, the status value indicating a number of successfully transmitted network requests within an interval.
