System and method for creating and managing a shared stored value account associated with a client device

A computer system for creating and managing a shared stored value account associated with a client device, the system comprising:

• a processor operable to:
• associate a first unique identifier with an owner of a stored value account;
• associate a primary account number with the stored value account;
• receive input to create a shared stored value account based on the stored value account;
• receive input corresponding to an intended recipient of the shared stored value account;
• and
• create a second unique identifier that is associated with the intended recipient of the shared stored value account and that is associated with the primary account number assigned to the stored value account.

A computer system for creating and managing a shared stored value account associated with a client device, the system comprising:

• means for assigning a first unique identifier to an owner of a stored value account;
• means for assigning a primary account number to the stored value account;
• means for receiving input to create a shared stored value account based on the stored value account;
• means for receiving input corresponding to an intended recipient of the shared stored value account;
• and
• means for creating a second unique identifier that is associated with the intended recipient of the shared stored value account and that is associated with the primary account number assigned to the stored value account.

A computer program product comprising a computer usable medium having a computer readable program code embodied therein, said computer readable program code adapted to be executed to implement a method for managing a stored value account, said method comprising:

• assigning a first unique identifier to an owner of a stored value account;
• assigning a primary account number to the stored value account;
• receiving input to create a shared stored value account based on the stored value account;
• receiving input corresponding to an intended recipient of the shared stored value account;
• and
• creating a second unique identifier that is associated with the intended recipient of the shared stored value account and that is associated with the primary account number assigned to the stored value account.
