Abstract
A medical system that includes an identification patch having a memory that stores identification information associated with the patch. A monitoring device to be used with the identification patch interrogates the patch to obtain the identification information stored within the memory of the patch. The monitoring device determines whether the identification information is valid and, if so, measures values representing one or more parameters of the patient. If the identification information is not valid, monitoring device does not measure values representing the one or more parameters of the patient.
Claims34
An apparatus for attaching to a patient, the apparatus comprising:
- a housing that is constructed to accept a portion of a monitoring device;
- a memory within the housing for storing identification information for the apparatus;
- and
- an integrated circuit within the housing, wherein the integrated circuit is configured to receive an interrogation signal from the monitoring device and to transmit a response signal that includes the identification information in response to the interrogation signal.
A method comprising:
- mechanically accepting a portion of a monitoring device;
- storing identification information for an apparatus;
- receiving an interrogation signal from a monitoring device requesting the identification information;
- and
- transmitting a response signal that includes the identification information for the apparatus.
An apparatus comprising:
- means for mechanically accepting a portion of a monitoring device;
- means for storing identification information for an apparatus;
- means for receiving an interrogation signal from a monitoring device requesting the identification information;
- and
- means for transmitting a response signal that includes the identification information for the apparatus.
