Abstract
A method of reducing the virulence of a bacterium that expresses accessory gene regulator A (AgrA) includes administering to the bacterium an amount of AgrA antagonist effective to inhibit the synthesis of one or more virulence factors by the bacterium.
Claims26
A method of reducing the virulence of a bacterium that expresses accessory gene regulator A (AgrA) comprising:
- administering to the bacterium an amount of AgrA antagonist effective to inhibit the synthesis of one or more virulence factors by the bacterium, the AgrA antagonist comprising at least one of a substituted phenyl(benzoic acid), a phenyl or substituted phenyl linked to a substituted aryl by a linker that is one to three atoms, a substituted naphthalene, or pharmaceutical salts thereof.
The method of claim 8, wherein the substituted phenyl(benzoic acid) has the general formula:
- wherein R6, R7, and R8 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, a halo, and hydroxyl;
- and pharmaceutically acceptable salts therereof.
A method of treating a bacterial infection in a subject:
- comprising administering to the subject an amount of AgrA antagonist effective to inhibit the synthesis of one or more virulence factors by the bacteria, the AgrA antagonist comprising at least one of a substituted phenyl(benzoic acid), a phenyl or substituted phenyl linked to a substituted aryl by a linker that is one to three atoms, a substituted naphthalene, or pharmaceutical salts thereof.
A method of treating a bacterial infection related disease or disorder in a subject comprising administering to the subject an amount of AgrA antagonist effective to inhibit the synthesis of one or more virulence factors by the bacteria, the AgrA antagonist comprising at least one of a substituted phenyl(benzoic acid), a phenyl or substituted phenyl linked to a substituted aryl by a linker that is one to three atoms, a substituted naphthalene, or pharmaceutical salts thereof.
