Abstract
A system includes an optical line terminal (OLT) that includes an OLT transmitter. The OLT transmitter includes one or more fixed wavelength optical sources that generate an optical signal at a first wavelength, and an optical waveguide that transmits the optical signal at the first wavelength in an optical network.

A device comprising:
- a fixed wavelength optical source to generate a first optical signal associated with a first wavelength;
- and
- a wave guide assembly connected to the fixed wavelength optical source, the optical sensor, and an optical network, where the wave guide assembly includes a plurality of fixed wavelength optical filter elements that pass optical signals associated with a respective plurality of wavelengths, where the wave guide assembly is to:
- direct the first optical signal generated the fixed wavelength optical source to the optical network,
- detect a second wavelength associated with a second optical signal present on the optical network,
- activate, based on the second wavelength, one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical filter elements, where the one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical filter elements transmits the second wavelength and blocks other wavelengths carried on the optical network, including the first wavelength, and
- direct, via the one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical filters, the second optical signal from the optical network to an optical sensor.

A method comprising:
- transmitting, by an optical device, a first optical signal, associated with a first wavelength, to an optical network;
- detecting, by the optical device, a second optical signal in the optical network, where the second optical signal is associated with a second wavelength that differs from the first wavelength;
- identifying, by the optical device and based on the second wavelength, one of a plurality of fixed wavelength optical filter elements that are associated with a respective plurality of wavelengths, where the identified one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical filter elements transmits the second wavelength and blocks other wavelengths;
- moving, by the optical device, the identified one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical filter elements into an optical path between the optical device and an optical network;
- and
- directing, by the optical device and via the optical path, the second optical signal to the optical device.

A non-transitory computer readable medium to store instructions that are executable by a network device, the instructions comprising:
- one or more instructions to receive one of a plurality of first optical signals in an optical network, where the plurality of first optical signals are associated with respective first wavelengths, and where a selected one of the plurality of first optical signals is associated with a particular first wavelength;
- and
- one or more instructions to activate, based on the particular first wavelength, one of a plurality of fixed wavelength optical sources, where the plurality of fixed wavelength optical sources generate second optical signals at a respective plurality of second wavelengths, where the activated one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical sources is associated with a particular second wavelength that differs from the particular first wavelength,
- where an output, from the activated one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical sources, is provided, via a wave guide connected to the one of the plurality of fixed wavelength optical sources, into the optical network.
