Abstract
An adapter is provided and includes a process for mounting the connectors on two cables being connected in a control cabinet. The adapter includes a circular sleeve with a flange positioned at one end of the sleeve for creating a rigid, fixed connection of the connectors in a conduit bringing cables into the control cabinet.
Claims16
An adapter for positioning a connector connected to one end of a cable, said connector being located at one end of a conduit through which said cable has been pulled, said adapter comprising:
- a tubular sleeve;
- an end plate formed at one end of the tubular sleeve and extending beyond the tubular sleeve to form a flange, said end plate having a flat outer surface and a flat under surface;
- a first slot formed in said tubular sleeve and extending the full length of said sleeve;
- and
- a second slot formed in said end plate and aligned with the first slot to form a full length aperture, said second slot extending through the end plate past a centerline of the tubular sleeve;
- wherein the cable may be positioned through the aperture and into said adapter, the connector may be connected to the outer surface of the end plate of said adapter, and the sleeve of said adapter may be inserted into the conduit such that the under surface of the end plate engages the conduit.
A system for securing a first cable connector connected to an end of a cable to an adapter so as to provide a rigid connection between the first cable connector and a second cable connector located in a control box, the control box having the cable entering the control box through a conduit, said system comprising:
- an adapter having a tubular sleeve and an end plate formed at one end of the tubular sleeve, said adapter having an aperture extending along the full length of the adapter for positioning the first connector and cable end in the adapter;
- a plurality of connector screws for securing the first connector to an outer surface of the end plate of the adapter;
- and
- one or more conduit screws for securing the tubular sleeve of the adapter in the conduit, whereby a rigid cable connection is formed when the second connector is inserted into the first connector.
A method for creating a rigid connection between a first cable connector connected to a cable extending from a conduit in a control box and a second cable connector located in the control box, the second connector including a quick release mechanism, the method comprising:
- positioning the first cable connector and cable into an adapter having a tubular sleeve, an end plate and a full length aperture;
- securing the first cable connector to an outer surface of the end plate of the adapter;
- securing the adapter into an open end of the conduit;
- attaching the second cable connector to the first cable connector;
- and
- setting the quick release mechanism on the second cable connector, whereby the triggering of the quick release mechanism will cause the second cable connector to disengage from the first cable connector.
