Failed process reporting

A computer-implemented method comprising:

• receiving an indication of a system failure;
• creating a report that includes an identifier for a process that generated the system failure and a type identifier for the system failure;
• submitting the report to an external entity;
• receiving a callback from the external entity for more information about the system failure;
• and
• reporting, responsive to the callback, one or more of a live kernel mini-dump associated with the system failure or a cross-process dump associated with the system failure to the external entity.

One or more computer readable storage media storing computer-executable instructions, the instructions being configured to be executed by a computing device to:

• receive an indication of a failed process associated with a target thread;
• make a report available to an external entity based on the indication of the failed process, the report including a name for the failed process, version information for the failed process, a timestamp associated with the failed process, a hash of a call stack associated with the target thread, and a failure identifier that identifies a type of failure associated with the failed process;
• receive a callback from the external entity for more information about the failed process;
• and
• report, responsive to the callback, one or more of a live kernel mini-dump associated with the failed process or a cross-process dump associated with the failed process to the external entity.
