Abstract
Disclosed herein are methods, compositions and tools for repairing articular surfaces repair materials and for repairing an articular surface. The articular surface repairs are customizable or highly selectable by patient and geared toward providing optimal fit and function. The surgical tools are designed to be customizable or highly selectable by patient to increase the speed, accuracy and simplicity of performing total or partial arthroplasty.

A patient-specific surgical instrumentation system for use in implantation of one or more components of a hip prosthesis during a surgery on a hip joint of a patient, comprising:
- a jig having a patient-specific surface and a guide;
- wherein the patient-specific surface has at least a portion that is substantially a negative of a corresponding portion of a surface of a proximal femur of the patient;
- wherein the guide is configured relative to the patient-specific surface to define a predetermined guide path relative to a proximal femur associated with the hip joint when the patient-specific surface is placed against and aligned with the corresponding portion of the surface of the femur, the predetermined guide path having a location based on a determination of a desired leg length associated with the prosthesis.
A patient-specific surgical instrumentation system for use in implantation of one or more components of a hip prosthesis during a surgery on a hip joint of a patient, comprising:
- a jig having a patient-specific surface and a guide;
- wherein the patient-specific surface has at least a portion that is substantially a negative of a corresponding portion of a surface of a proximal femur of the patient;
- wherein the guide is configured relative to the patient-specific surface to define a predetermined guide path extending through a femoral neck of a femur associated with the hip joint when the patient-specific surface is placed against and aligned with the corresponding portion of the surface of the femur, the predetermined guide path having a location based on a determination of a desired leg length associated with the prosthesis.
A patient-specific surgical instrumentation system for use in implantation of one or more components of a hip prosthesis during a surgery on a hip joint of a patient, comprising:
- a jig having a patient-specific surface and a guide;
- wherein the patient-specific surface has at least a portion that is substantially a negative of a corresponding portion of a surface of a proximal femur of the patient;
- wherein the guide is configured relative to the patient-specific surface to define a predetermined guide path relative to a femoral head of a femur associated with the hip joint when the patient-specific surface is placed against and aligned with the corresponding portion of the surface of the femur, the predetermined guide path having a location based on a determination of a desired leg length associated with the prosthesis.
A patient-specific surgical instrumentation system for use in implantation of one or more components of a hip prosthesis during a surgery on a hip joint of a patient, comprising:
- a jig having a patient-specific surface and a guide;
- wherein the patient-specific surface has at least a portion that is substantially a negative of a corresponding portion of a surface of a proximal femur of the patient;
- wherein the guide is configured relative to the patient-specific surface to define a predetermined guide path relative to a junction of a femoral head and a femoral neck of a femur associated with the hip joint when the patient-specific surface is placed against and aligned with the corresponding portion of the surface of the femur, the predetermined guide path having a location based on a determination of a desired leg length associated with the prosthesis.
A patient-specific surgical instrument for use in surgery on a hip joint of a patient, comprising:
- a jig having an alignment surface and a guide;
- wherein the alignment surface has at least a portion that is substantially a negative of a corresponding portion of a surface of at least one of a femoral head and neck of the patient;
- and
- wherein the guide is configured relative to the patient-specific surface to define a predetermined leg length based on image data of the hip joint of the patient when the alignment surface is placed against and aligned with the corresponding portion of the surface of the femur.
A patient-specific surgical instrument for use in surgery on a hip joint of a patient, comprising:
- a jig having a patient-specific surface and a guide;
- wherein the patient-specific surface has at least a portion that is substantially a negative of a corresponding portion of a surface of at least one of a femoral head and neck of a femur of the patient;
- and
- wherein the guide is configured relative to the patient-specific surface to define a guide path across an axis extending through at least a portion of the femoral neck of the patient when the patient-specific surface is placed against and aligned with the corresponding portion of the surface of the femur, the guide path based at least in part on a predetermined leg length associated with the hip joint of the patient.
