Monitoring myocardial infarction and its treatment

A method of monitoring success of remodeling in a subject after a myocardial infarction, wherein the remodeling is supported by treatment or a combination of treatments, the method comprising the steps of:

• determining an amount of a natriuretic peptide, a cardiac troponin, and an inflammatory marker in a sample from the subject,
• initiating a remodeling in the subject, wherein a medication to be applied in the remodeling is selected according to the level of the peptide, troponin, and marker determined.
• determining a second amount of a natriuretic peptide, a cardiac troponin, and an inflammatory marker in a sample from the subject,
• calculating a difference between the amounts from the first and second determination, and
• assessing, from the difference obtained the success of the remodeling.

A device for monitoring a remodeling in a subject after a myocardial infarction, wherein the remodeling is supported by treatment or a combination of treatments, the device comprising

• a means for determining an amount of a natriuretic peptide and an amount of a cardiac troponin in a first and a second sample from the subject,
• a means for determining an amount of an inflammatory marker selected from the group consisting of osteopontin, GDF-15, and CRP in a first and a second sample from the subject,
• optionally a means for calculating a difference between the amounts from the first and second determinations,
• optionally a means for assessing, from the difference obtained, if the remodeling is successful, and
• optionally a means for deciding on adapting a medication based on the difference obtained.

A kit for deciding which medication is to be applied in a remodeling process of a subject after a myocardial infarction, the kit comprising

• a means for determining an amount of a natriuretic peptide and an amount of a cardiac troponin in a sample from the subject,
• a means for determining an amount of an inflammatory marker selected from the group consisting of osteopontin, GDF-15, and CRP in a sample from the subject,
• optionally a means for deciding if a remodeling in the subject is to be initiated, wherein a medication to be applied in the remodeling is selected according to the amount of the natriuretic peptide, cardiac troponin, and inflammatory marker determined, and
• instructions for carrying out the determinations and making the decision regarding medication.

A kit for monitoring a remodeling in a subject after a myocardial infarction, wherein the remodeling is supported by medication, the kit comprising

• a means for determining an amount of a natriuretic peptide and an amount of a cardiac troponin in a first and a second sample from the subject,
• a means for determining an amount of an inflammatory marker selected from the group consisting of osteopontin, GDF-15, and CRP in a first and a second sample from the subject,
• optionally a means for calculating a difference between the amounts from the first and second determinations,
• optionally a means for assessing, from the difference obtained if the remodeling is successful,
• optionally a means for deciding on adapting the medication depending on the difference obtained, and
• instructions for carrying out the determinations and the monitoring.
