Abstract
The invention encompasses blends of polymers including, for example, polylactic acid and polyethylene terephthalate and articles manufactured therefrom. In certain embodiments, the invention encompasses blends of polymers including, for example, polylactic acid and polyethylene terephthalate that are useful in packaging and have improved physical properties, such as flexibility, elongation and/or dead-fold. In addition, the polymer blends of the invention may be suitable for a number of applications, such as in the manufacture of disposable bottles, wraps, bags and other packaging materials or as coating materials.
Claims26
A composition comprising about 1 wt. % to about 20 wt. % poly-lactic acid and polyethylene terephthalate, wherein the composition has an intrinsic viscosity of greater than about 0.7 dl/g.
A packaging material comprising about 1 wt. % to about 20 wt. % poly-lactic acid and polyethylene terephthalate, wherein the composition has an intrinsic viscosity of greater than about 0.5 dl/g to about 0.9 dl/g.
A method of making a consumer packaging product comprising:
- (i) combining about 1 wt. % to about 20 wt. % poly-lactic acid and polyethylene terephthalate to form a polymer blend;
- (ii) mixing polymer blend;
- (iii) heating the polymer blend;
- (iv) extruding the polymer blend;
- and
- (v) blow-molding to form a consumer packaging product.
A consumer product comprising a polymer blend, wherein the polymer comprises:
- (i) about 1 wt. % to about 20 wt. % poly-lactic acid;
- and
- (ii) a polyethylene terephthalate, and wherein the composition has an intrinsic viscosity of greater than about 0.7 dl/g.
