Abstract
Metal nanoparticles are assembled in interrupted metal strands or other structures of characteristic dimensions and orientation to generate a giant dielectric response through a modified GE effect. Careful selection and modification of the host material and synthesis also leads to low dielectric breakdown voltages. In addition, the high dielectric composite material is employed in material configurations that are more scalable for industrial and consumer applications.
Claims22
A method of producing a high dielectric permittivity composite material, comprising:
- selecting a host material with nano- or micro-scale pores or mesoporous channels;
- synthesizing conductive material in the host material channels to form interrupted strands;
- and
- filling the pores in the host material that are not filled with the conductive material.
A method of producing a high dielectric permittivity composite material comprising:
- selecting a zeolite as a host material;
- and
- synthesizing conductive material in the host material.
The method of 9, wherein the host material is Zeolite L and the conductive material is potassium.
A high dielectric permittivity composite material having a dielectric constant of at least 108 comprising potassium nanowires in Zeolite L.
A large scale structure that is at least 1 mm thick comprising multiple layers of composite material having high dielectric constants due to the GE effect.
