Abstract
Aqueous ophthalmic compositions comprising natural or synthetic curcuminoids either alone or in combination, nonionic surfactant and co-solvent along with suitable ophthalmic excipients, effective in increasing the bioavailability of the active compounds when administered topically to the eye is disclosed herein.

An aqueous ophthalmic composition comprising;
- a) at least one active compound in an amount of 0.02% to 2.5% w/v, said at least one active compound being selected from the group consisting of natural curcuminoids, synthetic curcuminoids, and a combination thereof;
- b) at least one nonionic surfactant in an amount of 1% w/v;
- c) at least one co-solvent in an amount of 1% w/v;
- and optionally
- d) at least one pharmaceutically acceptable ophthalmic excipient,
- for increasing the bioavailability of said at least one active compound when administered topically to the eye.
