Abstract
An optical fiber having increased mechanical strength is provided. The optical fiber includes an over cladding layer that has a compressive stress of at least 100 MPa.
Claims20
An optical fiber comprising a core, an inner cladding layer surrounding the core, and an over cladding layer surrounding the inner cladding layer, wherein the over cladding layer has a compressive stress of at least 100 MPa.
An optical fiber comprising a core and an over cladding layer surrounding the core, wherein the over cladding layer has a compressive stress of at least 100 MPa.
A method of making an optical fiber, the method comprising drawing an optical fiber from an optical fiber preform, wherein the optical fiber comprises a core, an inner cladding layer surrounding the core, and an over cladding layer surrounding the inner cladding layer, wherein the over cladding layer has a compressive stress of at least 100 MPa.
