Abstract
Ophthalmic apparatuses, systems and methods are disclosed. One embodiment is an ophthalmic scanning apparatus including a laser operable to emit a laser beam, a scanning mirror operable to scan the laser beam over at least a +/−15 degree scan, and a lens system operable to receive the laser beam from the scanning mirror and direct the laser beam to a spot on an image plane. The spot has a root mean square radius of less than about 3.8 microns over the +/−15 degree scan. Further embodiments include methods of modeling and determining corrective prescriptions for patient's eyes. Additional embodiments are described herein.

An ophthalmic scanning apparatus comprising:
- a laser operable to emit a laser beam;
- a scanning mirror operable to scan the laser beam over at least a +/−15 degree scan;
- and
- a double pass scanning lens system operable to receive the laser beam from the scanning mirror and direct the laser beam to a spot on a patient's entrance pupil plane and operable to receive reflected light from the patient's eye and direct the reflected light to a sensor operable to sense the reflected light;
- wherein the lens system optically conjugates the center of the scanning mirror with the center of the patient's entrance pupil and optically conjugates an entrance aperture of the sensor with the patient's entrance pupil.

A method comprising:
- directing a laser beam to a system including lenses and scanning mirrors;
- operating the scanning mirrors to scan the laser beam over a horizontal scanning range and a vertical scanning range;
- directing the laser beam to a central spot on a patient's pupil during the operating, the central spot having a root mean square radius of less than about 2 mm;
- reflecting light from the patient's eye through the system to a sensor effective to provide spots on an image plane having root mean square radii less than about 3.8 microns;
- and
- detecting information of optical characteristics of the patient's eye with a sensor.
