Abstract
The present invention is directed to methods of treating cancer and preventing cancer metastasis in a subject by administering a modulator of CGRP receptor signaling. The present invention is further directed to methods of identifying novel compounds that inhibit CGRP receptor signaling, and reagents and animal models useful for the same.
Claims30
A method of treating cancer comprising:
- administering to a patient having cancer an effective amount of an agent that modulates activity of calcitonin-gene related peptide (“CGRP”) receptor, wherein said administering is effective to treat the cancer.
A method of modifying survival of a cancerous cell or preventing establishment of a cancerous metastasis comprising:
- contacting a cancer cell with an agent that modulates activity of calcitonin-gene related peptide (“CGRP”) receptor, wherein said contacting is effective to modulate CGRP receptor activity and either kill or inhibit growth of the cancer cell or prevent establishment of a cancerous metastasis.
A method of screening compounds for inhibition of calcitonin-gene related peptide (“CGRP”) receptor function, the method comprising:
- contacting a eukaryotic cell that expresses the CGRP receptor with a test agent;
- and
- determining the effect, if any, of the test agent on CGRP receptor function, or the effect on protein-protein interactions between CLR and RAMP1, CLR and RCP, and RAMP1 and RCP.
A purified, fluorescent CGRP molecule comprising a single fluorophore tethered to the CGRP, wherein the fluorescent CGRP molecule is capable of binding to a CGRP receptor.
