Abstract
An anti-theft device for a vehicle having a manual brake system to slow or stop the vehicle is provided. The anti-theft device has a locking mechanism connected to the brake housing and can be placed in a locked position and an unlocked position. An interference member connected to the locking mechanism engages the brake actuating mechanism when in the braking position to maintain vehicle braking. In the unlocked position of the locking mechanism, the interference member is disengaged from the brake actuating mechanism to allow uninterrupted operation of the brake actuating mechanism.
Claims19
An anti-theft device for a vehicle having a wheel and a manual brake system configured to slow or stop the wheel, the manual brake system including a manually-actuated brake assembly having a brake actuating mechanism and a brake pad assembly connected via a brake cable, the brake pad assembly configured to slow or stop the wheel upon actuation of the brake actuating mechanism to a braking position and disengage from the wheel upon actuation of the brake actuating mechanism to a non-braking position, the anti-theft device comprising:
- a locking mechanism connected to the brake housing, said locking mechanism having a locked position and an unlocked position;
- and
- an interference member connected to said locking mechanism, wherein said interference member engages the brake actuating mechanism in the braking position to slow or stop the wheel in the locked position and said interference member is disengaged from the brake actuating mechanism in the unlocked position.
A bicycle comprising:
- a frame including a head tube and a rear tube;
- a fork rotationally coupled to said head tube;
- a handlebar assembly secured to said fork;
- a front wheel rotationally coupled to said fork;
- a rear wheel rotationally coupled to said rear tube;
- a braking system connected to at least one of said front wheel and said rear wheel, said braking system preventing rotation of said at least one of said front wheel and said rear wheel in a braking position and permitting rotation of said at least one of said front wheel and said rear wheel in an non-braking position;
- and
- a locking mechanism having a locked position and an unlocked position, said locking mechanism maintaining said brake system in said braking position when in the locked position.
