Devices for applying a colorant to a surface

A method for applying a colorant to a surface, comprising:

• (a) placing a design device on a surface, the design device comprising (i) a film layer comprising a first polymer, and (ii) particles adhered to the film layer, the particles comprising a second polymer and a colorant;
• (b) attaching the particles to the surface by applying a releasing agent to the film layer to dissolve the first polymer;
• and
• (c) affixing the colorant to the surface by applying at least one of heat, pressure, emitted waves, an emitted electrical field, a magnetic field, or a chemical to the particles.

A consumer aid, comprising:

• a first design device comprising a first film layer having a homogeneous mixture of a first polymer and a first colorant, wherein the first film layer has a first color and a first predetermined pattern;
• a second design device comprising a second film layer having a homogeneous mixture of a second polymer and a second colorant, wherein the second film layer has a second color and a second predetermined pattern;
• and
• an optional second layer joining the first design device and the second design device,
• wherein the first design device is adapted to release the first colorant upon application of at least one of pressure, heat, a chemical, or a releasing agent to the first design device and the second design device is adapted to release the second colorant upon application of at least one of pressure, heat, a chemical, or a releasing agent to the second design device, and
• wherein the first polymer and the second polymer and the first colorant and the second colorant may be the same or different.
