Abstract
A mixer and mixer assembly for turbulent mixing and enhancing a chemical reaction is provided. A method for using a mixer and mixer assembly for treatment of fluids is also provided. The mixer generally includes a first and second end, a surface configured for turbulent mixing, a catalyst supported thereon, and surface structure configured to increase interaction of catalyst and reactant. The mixer assembly generally includes a mixer inserted inside a fluid container or a tube and may also include a catalytic sleeve for enhancing interaction between catalyst and reactant.

1-35. (canceled)
A method for reducing a pollutant concentration level in waste gases from an industrial complex having a smoke stack, comprising:
- providing a smoke stack, including:
- a first smoke stack end,
- a second smoke stack end,
- a central axis extending from the first smoke stack end to the second smoke stack end,
- an internal region, and
- an inside surface, comprising:
- at least one inside surface structure,
- a catalyst supported on at least a portion of the inside surface structure,
- wherein the inside surface structure is configured for turbulent mixing of the waste gases;
- flowing the waste gases from a first smoke stack end to a second smoke stack end within the internal region of the smoke stack;
- turbulently mixing the waste gases wherein the inside surface structure causes turbulent mixing of the waste gases,
- wherein the waste gases contact the catalyst for a chemical reaction;
- and
- reducing the pollutant concentration level in the waste gases, wherein the chemical reaction reduces the pollutant concentration level in the waste gases.
A method for treatment of effluents from an industrial complex, comprising:
- providing a mixer assembly configured for flow of the effluents, including:
- a mixer comprising:
- a mixer first end,
- a mixer second end,
- a mixer major axis extending from the mixer first end to the mixer second end,
- a mixer minor axis that is perpendicular to the mixer major axis, and
- a mixer surface,
- wherein the mixer surface has a helix-like configuration for turbulent mixing of the effluents and a catalyst supported on at least a portion of the mixer surface, and
- a tube, comprising:
- a tube first end,
- a tube second end,
- a central tube axis extending from the tube first end to the tube second end,
- an internal region, and
- an internal diameter of the internal region perpendicular to the central tube axis,
- wherein the internal diameter of the internal region is greater than or equal to the mixer minor axis,
- wherein the mixer is provided in the internal region of the tube such that the mixer major axis and the central tube axis are parallel to each other;
- flowing the effluents from the tube first end to the tube second end within the internal region of the tube;
- turbulently mixing the effluents, wherein the mixer surface causes turbulent mixing of the effluents,
- wherein the effluents contact the catalyst allowing a chemical reaction;
- and
- treating the effluents, wherein the chemical reaction causes the treatment of effluents.
