Abstract
A packet trace is received. The packet trace is transformed into a sequence of pulse signals in a temporal domain. The sequence of pulse signals in the temporal domain is transformed into a sequence of pulse signals in a frequency domain. Peaks are detected within relevant frequency bands in the sequence of pulse signals in the frequency domain. A fundamental frequency is identified within the peaks. The fundamental frequency, which represents the TCP flow clock, is returned.

A computer-implemented method for extracting a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) flow clock, the method comprising computer-implemented operations for:
- receiving, through a computer, a packet trace;
- transforming the packet trace into a sequence of pulse signals in a temporal domain;
- transforming the sequence of pulse signals in the temporal domain into a sequence of pulse signals in a frequency domain;
- detecting peaks within relevant frequency bands in the sequence of pulse signals in the frequency domain;
- identifying a fundamental frequency within the peaks;
- and
- returning the fundamental frequency as the TCP flow clock.
A system for extracting a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) flow clock, comprising:
- a memory for storing a program containing code for extracting the TCP flow clock;
- and
- a processor functionally coupled to the memory, the processor being responsive to computer-executable instructions contained in the program and configured to
- receive a packet trace,
- transform the packet trace into a sequence of pulse signals in a temporal domain,
- transform the sequence of pulse signals in the temporal domain into a sequence of pulse signals in a frequency domain,
- detect peaks within relevant frequency bands in the sequence of pulse signals in the frequency domain,
- identify a fundamental frequency within the peaks, and
- return the fundamental frequency as the TCP flow clock.
A computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon for execution by a processor to provide a method for extracting a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) flow clock, the method comprising:
- receiving, through a computer, a packet trace;
- transforming the packet trace into a sequence of pulse signals in a temporal domain;
- transforming the sequence of pulse signals in the temporal domain into a sequence of pulse signals in a frequency domain;
- detecting peaks within relevant frequency bands in the sequence of pulse signals in the frequency domain;
- identifying a fundamental frequency within the peaks;
- and
- returning the fundamental frequency as the TCP flow clock.
