Abstract
System and method are disclosed for programming a user input device such as a computer mouse or computer keyboard. The user input device features memory for storing programming information associated with various user inputs, such as buttons or keys. The user may define macros, shortcuts, programs and other functions associated with any or all of user profiles so that the user may switch between various programmed data sets with ease.
Claims25
A programmable user input device comprising:
- a processor;
- a plurality of control inputs;
- nonvolatile memory for storing user configuration data, said user configuration data comprising user-defined functions for said control inputs, and wherein said nonvolatile memory is communicatively coupled with data input enabling said user to program said user input device by defining user-defined functions for at least one of said control inputs.
A method for programming a user input device comprising:
- entering a program mode for said user input device;
- selecting one of a plurality of user profiles for said user input device;
- selecting a source key;
- defining a customized target function for said source key, thereby generating user configuration data;
- and
- storing said user configuration data in a nonvolatile memory.
3 more elements
A computer program for programming nonvolatile memory for a computer input device, comprising:
- a user interface for selecting one of a plurality of user profiles;
- a programming module allowing a user-defined selection of a source input and a target function associated with said source input, together comprising programming information;
- a data communication module effecting the communication of said programming information to a nonvolatile memory for storage therein.
