Abstract
Switching mode power supplies (SMPS) that can operate in a control mode for a normal load condition and operate with a burst-mode controller for a light load condition are disclosed herein. In one embodiment, a method for controlling the switching mode power supply includes when the load is in a light load condition, the switching mode power supply is controlled by a burst-mode controller.
Claims30
A switching mode power supply comprising:
- a feedback network configured to provide a feedback signal;
- a control circuit operatively coupled to the feedback network;
- and wherein:
- the feedback network outputs the feedback signal to the control circuit based on a load condition;
- the control circuit compares the value of the feedback signal to a threshold value to indicate a light load condition or a normal load condition;
- the control circuit switches the switching mode power supply to operate using a burst-mode controller for the light load condition or not using the burst-mode controller for the normal load condition.
A method for controlling a switching mode power supply, comprising when the load is in a light load condition, the switching mode power supply is controlled by a burst-mode controller.
