Abstract
A partition assembly comprising a partition matrix made up of intersecting first and second slotted partitions, each of the partitions having at least one slot and a rounded edge. The slots of the partitions are engaged with each other at a plurality of intersections. The partitions are made by rounding an edge of a multi-layered blank using a rotatable tool and then cutting the partition material to a desired size. Slots may then be formed in the edge sealed material.
Claims25
A partition assembly comprising:
- at least one first slotted partition, each first slotted partition having at least one slot extending inwardly from an edge thereof;
- at least one second slotted partition, each second slotted partition having at least one slot extending inwardly from an edge thereof;
- said first and second slotted partitions being arranged in a matrix, said at least one slot of said at least one first slotted partition being engaged with said at least one slot of said at least one second slotted partition at an intersection,
- at least one of said partitions having a rounded edge, a foam interior portion and two unconnected fabric layers secured to opposed faces of the foam interior portion.
A slotted partition for use in a partition assembly, said slotted partition comprising:
- a single ply substrate made of polypropylene foam and having opposed faces;
- a pair of outer skins made of polyester, each of the outer skins being secured to one of the opposed faces of the substrate, said outer skins having edges proximate each other so as to form a rounded edge without any additional material;
- and
- a plurality of slots extending inwardly from an edge thereof.
A method of forming a slotted partition, the method comprising the steps of:
- providing a multiple layered partition blank comprising a foam substrate having opposed first and second surfaces and a first outer fabric layer bonded directly to the first surface of the foam substrate and a second outer fabric layer bonded directly to the second surface of the foam substrate;
- heating a portion of the foam substrate of the partition blank;
- bringing together upper edges of the first and second outer layers over an upper edge of the foam substrate to create a rounded edge;
- and
- slotting the partition.
A method of forming a partition assembly for use in a container, said method comprising the steps of:
- providing a first slotted partition comprising a foam substrate and opposed outer skins of a fabric material secured to opposed faces of the foam substrate wherein said first slotted partition has a rounded upper edge;
- providing a second slotted partition comprising a foam substrate and opposed outer skins of a fabric material secured to opposed faces of the foam substrate wherein said second slotted partition has a rounded upper edge;
- and
- engaging the slots of the first and second partitions to form a partition assembly.
