Abstract
Greenhouse gases are lowered in treatment of animal manure from a CAFO by eliminating or reducing anaerobic digestion. The manure product is admixed with drying agents and is suitable for use as fertilizer or fuel while severely curtailing odor at the same time.
Claims28
A method of decreasing the emission of CO2-equivalent greenhouse gases associated with the anaerobic digestion of organic wastes, comprising one or more of the steps of
- a) removing the organic waste from an anaerobic digestion process, dewatering the organic waste, and admixing the dewatered waste with at least one drying agent to form an admixture;
- b) converting the anaerobic digestion process to an aerobic process through the injection of an oxygen containing gas, optionally in conjunction with air entraining agents;
- c) decreasing the efficiency of the anaerobic digestion process by altering the pH of the process by adding either acidic or basic reagents, so that the pH is either below 5.5 or above 9.0.
