Abstract
A fastening or mounting apparatus for releasably joining two objects is disclosed. The apparatus has a first component and a second component. The first component may include a plate, two side walls and two flanges extending from the side walls. The second component may include a plate, a first lip and a second lip. The first lip has a cavity holding a resilient element. The second lip may have a convex portion and at least partially define a detent. One of the flanges engages with the resilient element in the cavity while the two components are non-parallel. The first flange compresses the resilient element while the second flange contacts the convex portion. The resilient element biases the second flange against the detent once the two components are parallel.
Claims19
An apparatus for releasably joining two objects, comprising:
- a first component having first and second flanges;
- a second component having a first lip at least partially defining a channel, a resilient element disposed within the channel, and a second lip at least partially defining a detent;
- wherein the channel is adapted to receive the first flange in contact with the resilient element and the detent is adapted to receive the second flange.
An apparatus for releasably joining two objects, comprising:
- a first component having a first plate with first and second longitudinal edges wherein the first plate substantially defines a first plane;
- a first side wall adjoining the first plate along the first longitudinal edge and extending therefrom at a first angle;
- a first flange adjoining the first side wall and extending therefrom in a plane substantially parallel to the first plane;
- a second side wall adjoining the first plate along the second longitudinal edge and extending therefrom at a second angle;
- a second flange adjoining the second side wall and extending therefrom in a plane substantially parallel to the first plane;
- a second component having a second plate with first and second longitudinal edges wherein the second plate substantially defines a second plane;
- a first lip adjoining the second plate along the first longitudinal edge and at least partially defining a channel;
- a resilient element disposed within the channel;
- a second lip adjoining the second plate along the second longitudinal edge and at least partially defining a detent;
- wherein the channel is adapted to receive the first flange in contact with the resilient element and the detent is adapted to receive the second flange.
An apparatus for releasably joining two objects, comprising:
- a first component having a substantially rectangular first plate substantially defining a first plane, wherein the first plate has a normal direction, a lateral direction and a first plate length in a longitudinal direction;
- two side walls adjoining the first plate wherein the side walls are positioned on opposite sides of the first plate, having the first plate length in the longitudinal direction and extend away from the first plate in planes within fifteen degrees of the normal direction;
- two flanges adjoining the side walls wherein each of the flanges extends laterally from a corresponding one of the side walls in the lateral direction and has the first plate length in the longitudinal direction;
- a second component having a second plate having the normal direction, the lateral direction and a second plate length in the longitudinal direction;
- a first lip adjoining a first edge of the second plate, wherein the first lip has the second plate length in the longitudinal direction, extends away from the second plate in a direction substantially opposite from the normal direction, at least partially defines a cavity that extends the second plate length in the longitudinal direction, has a projection having a beveled surface that extends the second plate length in the longitudinal direction, and has an aperture to the cavity between the beveled surface and the second plate;
- a second lip adjoining the second side of the second plate, wherein the second lip has the second plate length in the longitudinal direction, extends away from the second plate in a direction substantially opposite from the normal direction, has a convex portion that extends the second plate length in the longitudinal direction and extends toward the first lip in the lateral direction, and has a detent between the convex portion and the second plate;
- and
- a resilient element disposed within the cavity, wherein the resilient element has the second plate length in the longitudinal direction;
- wherein when the resilient element biases the first component against the detent while the first and second plates are substantially parallel, the interference of the first flange with the resilient element and the interference of the second flange with the detent inhibit the second component from moving relative to the first component.
