A pharmaceutical composition for treating blood loss or coagulation disorders, comprising a snake venom FV polypeptide and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier or diluent, wherein the composition excludes a snake venom FXa polypeptide, and wherein the snake venom FV polypeptide comprises an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- (a) an amino acid sequence that shares at least 90% sequence identity with the sequence set forth in any one of SEQ ID NO:
- 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12;
- or (b) an amino acid sequence which is encoded by a nucleotide sequence that shares at least 90% sequence identity with the sequence set forth in any one of SEQ ID NO:
- 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11;
- or (c) an amino acid sequence which is encoded by a nucleotide sequence that hybridizes under high stringency conditions to a complement of the sequence set forth in any one of SEQ ID NO:
- 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11, wherein the amino acid sequence of (a), (b) or (c) has any one or more activity selected from the group consisting of:
- bleeding-inhibiting activity, clotting time-reducing activity;
- haemostasis-enhancing activity;
- clot lysis time prolonging activity;
- and clot strength-increasing activity.
