Abstract
A request to import a media file is received, and a first piece of meta information associated with the media file is read. A user may then edit a representation of the media file while at least one background task is performed to complete the import of the media file. After performing the at least one background task, enhanced editing functionality is provided.

An audio system for editing audio files, comprising:
- a processor that executes instructions;
- and
- a computer-readable memory that stores instructions that cause the processor, upon receiving a request to import an audio file, to enable editing by:
- reading a first piece of meta information associated with the audio file;
- enabling a user to edit a representation of the audio file after reading the first piece of meta information;
- performing at least one background task to complete the import of the audio file, while enabling the user to edit the representation of the audio file;
- and
- providing enhanced editing functionality after performing the at least one background task.
