Abstract
A lagwire system and method for facilitating the fixation of bone fractures is disclosed. The lagwire system includes an anchor component, a wire, a sleeve and a cap. The sleeve and cap are operable to slide along the length of the wire and also operable to be used to fixate a fracture individually by using a canal prepared by the anchor and wire.
Claims20
A method for treating a bone fracture comprising:
- inserting a lagwire system into said bone, wherein said lagwire system comprises an anchor and wire;
- navigating said lagwire system to a desired position within said bone causing said lagwire system to ream a canal through a center portion of said bone and across said bone fracture;
- removing said lagwire device;
- and
- inserting a polymer wire into said canal such that said polymer wire bridges said bone fracture.
An implant device configured to be inserted into a canal prepared by a flexible reaming device, said implant device comprising a flexible sleeve comprised of a PEEK material having sufficient rigidity to be inserted into said canal.
