Abstract
The present invention relates to silylimidazolium salt complexes and their uses as catalysts including tunable latent catalysts for curing epoxy resins.
Claims31
A silylimidazolium salt complex represented by the following Formula I:
- wherein
- R1-R4 are substituents of the imidazole ring and R1-R4 each independently represents an organic group that forms a stable imidazole ring within the silylimidazolium salt complex;
- R′, R″ and R′″ are substituents of the silyl functional group and R′, R″, and R′″ each independently represents an organic group that forms a stable silyl function group within the silylimidazolium salt complex;
- and
- X− is an anion which forms a stable salt complex with the silylimidazolium cation within the silyimidazolium salt complex.
2 more elements
A tunable latent catalyst comprising at least one silylimidazolium salt complex, wherein the silylimidazolium salt complex comprises an imidazole ring with a silyl functional group attached to one of the nitrogen atoms in the imidazole ring.
An imidazolium salt complex represented by the following Formula II:
- wherein
- Z is a stannyl, phosphinoyl, or a sulfonyl functional group;
- R1-R4 are substituents of the imidazole ring and R1-R4 each independently represents an organic group that forms a stable imidazole ring within the imidazolium salt complex;
- R′, R″ and R′″ are substituents of the silyl functional group and R′, R″, and R′″ each independently represents an organic group that forms a stable {—ZR′R″R′″} functional group within the imidazolium salt complex;
- and
- X− is an anion which forms a stable salt complex with the imidazolium cation within the imidazolium salt complex.
