Nitrone compounds, process of preparation thereof, and use thereof in medicament manufacture

A compound of the following formula (I) or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof:

• wherein:
• R1, R2, and R3 are independently selected from the group consisting of H, OH, NH2, COOH, alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, ester, amide, and carbamate, wherein the R1, R2, and R3 can be the same or different with the proviso that all R1, R2, and R3 cannot be H at the same time;
• and
• X and Y are independently C, N, O or S, but are not C at the same time.
