Abstract
The invention relates to antibodies that bind to a fragment of the Response Gene to Complement-32 (RGC-32), as well as methods of using these antibodies. Particular methods of using the antibodies of the present invention include, but are not limited to, methods of detecting RGC-32 in a sample, methods of assaying cell proliferation, as well as methods of detecting and/or monitoring the progression of abnormal conditions in a subject, where the disease states are associated with the presence or absence of RGC-32.

An antibody that specifically binds to an antigen, wherein said antigen comprises a polypeptide comprising an amino acid sequence at least 80% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1 and said antibody is a monoclonal antibody.
A method of detecting an abnormal condition in a subject, said method comprising
- a) determining the levels of an antigen in a biological sample from said patient, said antigen comprising an amino acid sequence at least 80% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- and
- b) comparing said determined levels of said antigen with normal levels of said antigen;
- wherein a difference between said determined levels of antigen and normal levels of said antigen may be indicative of the presence of said abnormal condition.
A method of monitoring the progression or regression of an abnormal condition in a subject, said method comprising
- a) determining the levels of an antigen in a biological sample from said patient at a first and second time point, said antigen comprising an amino acid sequence at least 80% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- and
- b) comparing said determined levels at each of side time point to determine a difference in levels of said antigen over time;
- wherein a difference in levels of said antigen over time is indicative of the progression or regression of said abnormal condition.
A method for assaying cell proliferation comprising
- a) determining the levels of an antigen in a test cell population, wherein the proliferation state of said cells is unknown, said antigen comprising an amino acid sequence at least 80% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 1;
- and
- b) comparing said determined levels of said antigen to control levels of antigen in a control cell population wherein the proliferation state of said control cell population is known;
- wherein a difference between said determined levels of antigen and control levels of said antigen is used to assess the proliferation state of said test cells.
A method for assaying cell proliferation comprising
- a) determining the levels of an antigen in a test cell population, wherein the proliferation state of said cells is unknown, said antigen comprising an amino acid sequence at least 80% identical to the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
- 2, said cell population comprising macrophages;
- and
- b) comparing said determined levels of said antigen to control levels of antigen in a control cell population wherein the proliferation state of said control cell population is known;
- wherein a difference between said determined levels of antigen and control levels of said antigen is used to assess the proliferation state of said test cells.
