Abstract
A method is provided for producing a connector so that a terminal fitting is unlikely to move. A terminal fitting (20) is set in a molding die assembly that has a first die (60) and a second die (70). Resin then is injected to mold housing (40) including the terminal fitting (20) as an insert. A potting material (49) then is injected into a recess (45) in the housing (40) to produce a male connector. The first die (60) has a tab insertion hole (62) for fixing the terminal fitting (20), and the second die (70) has a gate (72) for injecting the resin. A cavity (81) is formed by placing the second die (70) on the first die (60) so that a projection (26) on the terminal fitting 20 is sandwiched between fitting pressing portions on the dies (60, 70).
Claims10
A method for producing a connector, comprising:
- providing a terminal fitting (20) having a tab (21) at one end extending in a connecting direction and at least one bend (24, 25);
- placing the tab (21) in a tab insertion hole (62) of a first molding die (60);
- closing a second molding die (70) on the first molding die (60) so that a cavity (81) for forming a housing (40) of the connector is formed between the first and second dies (60, 70), the closing of the second molding die (70) sandwiching and fixing the terminal fitting (20) between mating faces of the first and second dies (60, 70);
- and
- injecting resin through a gate (72) in the second molding die (70) and into the cavity (82) substantially in a direction in which the tab portion (21) is inserted into the tab insertion hole (62) so that the resin forms an integral matrix surrounding portions of the terminal fitting (20 in the cavity (81).
A molding die (60, 70) for producing by performing insert molding a connector including a connector housing (40) and at least one terminal fitting (20) integral to each other with the terminal fitting (20), the terminal fitting (20) having a bent or cranked shape having a tab portion (21) extending in a connecting direction of a mating connector and one or more bent portions (24, 25), wherein the molding die (60, 70) comprises:
- first and second dies (60, 70) which can be opened in an extending direction of the tab portion (21),
- the first and second dies (60, 70) being configured to form a cavity (81) for forming the connector housing (40) therebetween in a closed state,
- the first die (60) is formed with a tab insertion hole (62) into which the tab portion (21) is to be at least partly inserted,
- a fitting pressing portion for at least partly sandwiching and fixing the terminal fitting (20) at the time of die clamping is formed on mating faces of the first and second dies (60, 70), and
- a gate (72) for injecting resin into the cavity (82) substantially in a direction, in which the tab portion (21) is inserted into the tab insertion hole (62), is arranged in the second die (70) for the insert molding.
A connector, comprising:
- a connector housing (40) made of synthetic resin and including a receptacle (44),
- at least one terminal fitting (20) including a tab portion (21) projecting from the back wall of the receptacle (44) and extending substantially in a connecting direction of a mating connector, and
- a recessed portion (45) formed in the back wall of the connector housing (44) by recessing a part located near or around the terminal fitting (20) and having a resin material (49) injected thereinto to adhere to the terminal fitting (20),
- wherein the tab portion (21) of the terminal fitting (20) is thinner than a remaining base portion (22;
- 23) of the terminal fitting (20) and a boundary part (27) between the tab portion (21) and the base portion (22;
- 23) is set at such a position in the recessed portion (45) as to be at least partly embedded in the resin material (49).
