A method, comprising contacting a glycosaminoglycan with a glycosaminoglycan-degrading enzyme in an amount effective to cleave the glycosaminoglycan, thereby producing a cleavage product, wherein the glycosaminoglycan-degrading enzyme is an isolated sulfatase comprising the amino acid sequence of SEQ ID NO:
