Abstract

Compositions are provided that improve overall plant vigor and yield by combining agriculturally effective amounts of at least one environmentally friendly biological control agent and at least one chemical insect control agent. A composition of the present invention is particularly effective in the presence of fungal species. Use of a composition of the present invention leads to an overall reduction in crop losses caused by fungi and this reduction is much greater than would have been expected from application of either component alone. Methods for utilizing compositions of the present invention are also provided. Further the compositions according to this invention display a synergistic insecticidal, nematicidal, acaricidal or fungicidal activity.

A composition comprising a biologically pure strain of Metschnikowia fructicola and at least one insect control agent selected from the group consisting of:

(1) Acetylcholinesterase inhibitors;
(2) GABA-gated chloride channel antagonists;
(3) Sodium channel modulators;
(4) Nicotinergic acetylcholine receptor agonists;
(5) Allosteric acetylcholine receptor modulators;
(6) Chloride channel activators;
(7) Juvenile hormone mimics;
(8) Non-specific multi-site inhibitors;
(9) Selective homopteran feeding blockers;
(10) Mite growth inhibitors;
(11) Microbial disruptors of insect midgut membranes;
(12) Inhibitors of mitochondrial ATP synthase;
(13) Uncouplers of oxidative phosphorylation via proton gradient disruption;
(14) Nicotinic acetylcholine receptor channel blockers;
(15) Inhibitors of chitin biosynthesis, type 0;
(16) Inhibitors of chitin biosynthesis, type 1;
(17) Moulting disruptors;
(18) Ecdysone receptor agonists/disruptors;
(19) Octopamine receptor agonists;
(20) Mitochondrial complex III electron transport inhibitors;
(21) Mitochondrial complex I electron transport inhibitors;
(22) Voltage-dependent sodium channel blockers;
(23) Inhibitors of acetyl CoA carboxylase;
(24) Mitochondrial complex IV electron inhibitors;
(25) Ryanodine receptor modulators;
(26) further active ingredients selected from the group consisting of:
