Abstract
A method for compressing digital data. The method comprises creating a plurality of wavelet coefficients associated with an input signal by iteratively performing a plurality of wavelet transforms to a plurality of sub-bands of the input signal, adjusting a zerotree dataset according to each the wavelet transform, and encoding the plurality of wavelet coefficients according to the zerotree dataset.

A method for compressing digital data, comprising:
- a) creating a plurality of wavelet coefficients associated with an input signal by performing a plurality of wavelet transforms to a plurality of sub-bands of said input signal;
- b) adjusting a zerotree dataset according to each said wavelet transform;
- and
- c) encoding said plurality of wavelet coefficients according to said zerotree dataset.

A method for decompressing encoded digital data, comprising:
- a) extracting a plurality of encoded wavelet coefficients by entropically decoding an encoded digital data;
- b) reconstructing a zerotree dataset according to said encoded wavelet coefficients;
- and
- c) using said zerotree dataset for performing an inverse wavelet transform on said encoded wavelet coefficients, thereby reconstructing said digital data.

An apparatus for compressing digital data, comprising:
- a wavelet transformation module configured for creating a plurality of wavelet coefficients associated with an input signal by iteratively performing a plurality of wavelet transforms to a plurality of sub-bands of said input signal;
- a zerotree adjusting module, associated with said wavelet transformation module, configured for adjusting a zerotree dataset according to each said wavelet transform;
- and
- a processing module for processing said plurality of wavelet coefficients according to said zerotree dataset.
