Method, computer program, receiver, and apparatus for determining a channel quality index

A tangible computer readable storage medium having stored therein a computer program comprising instructions, which when executed by a processor are arranged to cause the processor to perform a method for determining a channel quality index in a receiver, the method comprising:

• receiving signals comprising reference signals from a serving cell and reference signals from neighboring cells;
• determining signal power of the reference signals from the serving cell and signal power of the reference signals from detected neighboring cells;
• and
• determining carrier-to-interference ratio to be the ratio between the signal power of the reference signals from the serving cell and the signal power of the reference signals from the detected neighboring cells.

A receiver comprising:

• means for receiving signals comprising reference signals from a serving cell and reference signals from neighboring cells;
• means for determining signal power of the reference signals from the serving cell and signal power of the reference signals from detected neighboring cells;
• and
• means for determining carrier-to-interference ratio to be the ratio between the signal power of the reference signals from the serving cell and the signal power of the reference signals from the detected neighboring cells.
